Things to do NOW before of the 2014 Scuba Cruise

With only 483 days before our Scuba Cruise to Tahiti, I was trying to think of what you can do NOW to get ready for the trip.  Immunizations!  Yes, that's right...it's not too early to get shots - if you need them!  Seriously, it's a good time to make sure you are up to date with all your immunizations.  If you are, then you can scratch one item off your to-do list!
  • A yellow fever vaccination is required for travellers to Tahiti arriving from an infected area. Most of us don't live in an infected area, but left this on the list just in case!
  • Immunisation against hepatitis A is recommended.
  • There are increasing outbreaks of dengue fever. Take insect repellent.
  • A typhoid vaccine is also suggested for most travellers The only decompression chamber is at Papeete, the capital city.

2014 Scuba Cruise Update

This update is coming to you 495 days prior to the Scuba Cruise!  We currently have 19 certified scuba divers as well as their non-diving friends booked on this cruise; unbelievably, space on the cruise is getting very tight!  If you have not yet booked your stateroom, you may want to do so soon, as the ship is expected to sell out quickly.  With only 680 passengers, the Ocean Princess is the smallest ship in Princess' fleet, and the only type of ship that can call on islands in the South Pacific.

There are just five types of staterooms onboard Ocean Princess: Interior Double, Oceanview Double, Oceanview Double with Balcony, Mini-Suites and Owner's Suites. What's important, though, is that size may vary even within like groups. Oceanview Doubles, for example, clock in between 146 and 206 square feet -- that's a pretty big range (Categories CC on Deck 7 and G on Deck 6 are the roomiest); likewise for the Owner's Suites, which measure approximately 786 square feet to 962 square feet with the verandah (figure an average of 874).  Please contact SuzyCruisy, our group agent to book your stateroom; she's very familiar with the ship and can help you find the best room in your budget.

I will be contacting the dive operator in February 2013 to obtain more detailed pricing information - right now all we have are estimates.  Please note that the dives in Tahiti are easily double the price we are used to paying in the Caribbean!  At least you have a year and a half to save up for this trip!  If you want to dive with us, please refer to the group website for updates.  As soon as pricing for 2014 is confirmed, it will be posted there.

Here is the itinerary for the cruise:

Welcome to the 2014 Scuba Cruise

Welcome to the 2014 Scuba Cruise aboard the Ocean Princess! As you prepare to sail and dive with us, this website will be your place to go starting in January 2013 for our monthly newsletters as well as other information pertaining to the ship and the ports of call. You are welcome to have your name added to the dive boat manifest anytime; please email Suzi, the dive group leader with the ports where you plan to dive.  You will also find our cruise countdown clock, ship information as well as the itinerary here.  As a group member, I would like to encourage you to stay in touch with the group at Group Message Board at Facebook. If at any time you have a question or concern, please don't hesitate to contact me, the group leader.

Our group consists of divers and their non-diving friends and family. We are a low maintenance, experienced bunch of divers who dive together every day we are in port. In 2014 there will be five days of diving.  Many in the group dive with camera equipment, so good air consumption and buoyancy control among dive group members are a must.

Non-divers in the group generally get together while we dive; they often do tours together, go to the beach or relax on the ship. Though scuba diving is the focus of this cruise when we are in port, all group members are included in our group activities while on the ship.
Again, welcome to the group and enjoy planning your trip to Tahiti.
